If I were to ask you what makes your friend such a good friend, what would you say?
Passionate, Kind, Compassionate, Thoughtful, Accommodating, friendly, patient, Courteous… I’m sure there are a lot more of other descriptive words that will come to mind.
How about our own? What are some of the words we can describe ourselves with? Most of us are able to see the good parts of another person, but not about ourselves. So, why is it that we could only see the bad points about ourselves?
“There’s something wrong with me.”
“I don’t belong here.”
“I don’t belong here.”
“I am not pretty.”
“I don’t have what it takes.”
“I don’t like who I am.”
“I don’t have what it takes.”
“I don’t like who I am.”
Have these thoughts ever crossed your mind? It definitely crossed mine many times. In this century where technology is so advanced and where everyone is educated, a lot of us struggle to find who we really are and where we really belong in this world and more often than not, it results in negative emotions. Everyone is judging everyone, and everyone is comparing themselves to others.
Sometimes we can’t help but to think of negative emotions due to the lack of self-esteem, loneliness, or even because of some words that someone else said which had hurt us. The key is to stop ourselves before we fall too deep into the trap.
“If you are feeling good, it is because you are thinking good thoughts.” – Rhonda Byrne, The secret
What we believe or think of ourselves reflects in how we react and how we live our everyday lives. If you think that you are not confident, you’re not. Everyone of us is unique in their our own ways. We have different values about ourselves that differentiate who we are from the rest. Therefore, the more positive thoughts we have, the happier we will be. Start by loving and accepting ourselves for who we are, and eventually, we will be more confident and able to see ourselves in a much better light. Believe in yourself, and believe tomorrow will be a better day.
